PULSE at Paperjam Club Roundtable: Addressing the Challenges of Opening a Bank Account

Angelika Bocian-Jaworska represented PULSE – Luxembourg Startup Association at the Paperjam Club roundtable to highlight startups’ banking challenges and explore opportunities for collaboration.

On September 15, Angelika had the privilege to represent PULSE – Luxembourg Startup Association at a roundtable hosted by Paperjam Club at Banque internationale à Luxembourg (BIL). The discussion brought together key decision-makers and industry leaders to tackle one pressing question: What challenges do we face today when opening a bank account?

The event gathered a large audience and featured a distinguished panel including Luxembourg’s Minister of Finance Gilles Roth, Claude Marx (CSSF), Jerry Grbic (ABBL), Jeffrey Dentzer (BIL), and Laurent Mosar (CSV).

Together, the speakers explored how the seemingly simple process of opening a bank account can, in reality, create major barriers for businesses, particularly for start-ups and founders striving to establish and scale their ventures.

As a PULSE Board Member, Angelika was proud to share the perspective of the startup community. Access to essential banking services remains one of the biggest hurdles for young companies in Luxembourg. Without solutions, this issue risks slowing down innovation and undermining the country’s position as an attractive hub for entrepreneurship.

The discussion was not only an opportunity to raise awareness of these challenges but also to build bridges. Encouragingly, we identified potential fields of collaboration with serious players in the ecosystem - a positive step towards creating practical solutions.

At PULSE, we strongly believe that improving access to banking services for founders is essential to unlock Luxembourg’s full potential as a startup nation. This roundtable was an important milestone in moving the conversation forward, and we are committed to working with policymakers, regulators, and financial institutions to turn dialogue into concrete action.
