Äerd Lab at EXPO 2025 Osaka: Building the Future in Clay

We’re honoured to share that Äerd Lab is part of EXPO 2025 Osaka, contributing to the Luxembourg Pavilion - a space celebrating innovation, sustainability, and design rooted in place.

The future isn’t poured in concrete - it’s printed in clay.

At EXPO 2025 Osaka, this idea takes physical form through our contribution to the Luxembourg Pavilion: 3D-printed clay stools, crafted by Äerd Lab using natural clay sourced from Betzdorf. These pieces reflect a quiet revolution — one where architecture is circular, site-specific, and deeply connected to its materials.

Our stools aren’t just functional objects. They represent values: locality, low-impact design, and the creative potential of earth as a bio-based building material. At a time when construction is one of the world’s most resource-intensive sectors, we believe this kind of work offers a radically different approach — one that respects both place and planet.

Visitors to the pavilion will also find a video portrait of Äerd Lab, featured alongside other stories from people shaping Luxembourg’s future across disciplines. Produced by jangled nerves, this short film offers a glimpse into our ethos and why we believe code, clay, and creativity are essential tools for building a more responsible tomorrow.

Being present at EXPO isn’t just a milestone — it’s a moment of recognition and a renewal of purpose. We’re proud to stand among innovators who prove that design can be both bold and humble, and that ancient materials still hold the key to new possibilities.

Thank you to the Ministry of the Economy, the Luxembourg Pavilion team, and all collaborators who made this moment real.
